While browsing around, I saw some of my work being displayed in someone's blogsite operated by Fonil.com, which sounds interesting.

Salazar Awards 2008, Print Design

Another honourable mention was recieved for this Royale Private Estates brochure. A wealth of great design work was submitted this year, so to receive an honourable mention at the Salazar Awards was great news, but because the GDC members in charge of this event did not have time to design a 2008 certificate award, they ended up giving everyone last year's certificate design...special isn't it? I know. I can't complain though :)
Salazar Awards 2008, Advertising

This year the advertising created for 88.9 More FM won an honourable mention at the Salazar Awards hosted by the GDC (Society of Graphic Designers of Canada)and presented during an event with keynote speaker, Stefan Sagmeister. See some photos on flickr.
Design Exchange, Toronto

In 2006 this design was the winner of Design Exhange in Partnership with the Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation Competition. To find out more about it visit the Design Exchange website. Unfortunately, I left my 1st place certificate in the classroom and someone may have "borrowed" it and never returned it. :(

Happy Birthday Adrian Frutiger

Adrian Frutiger is one of today's world renowned type-designers. Inspiring designers since the 1950's, Frutiger has designed some of the most well-known typefaces and produced a variety of books during his career. Born on May 24, 1928, in Unterlaken, Switzerland, Frutiger started his design career at the age of 16 working as an apprentice for a local printer. After his education in Zurich, he moved to Paris where he began working for the Deberny & Peignot typefoundry. During his time there, Frutiger also began designing his own typefaces, some of which have earned him international credibility as a type-designer. Frutiger's typefaces include:
President (1952), Phoebus (1953), Ondine (1954), Méridien (1955), Egyptienne (1956), Univers (1956), Apollo (1962), Serifa (1967), OCR-B (1968), Iridium (1975), Frutiger (1975), Glypha (1979), Icone (1980), Breughel (1982), Versailles (1982), Avenir (1988), and Vectora (1990).
Today Mr. Frutiger is 80 years old. Happy Birthday Mr. Frutiger!...and thank you for the wonderful typefaces.

Crazy 12 year old...
This past week I've been trying to figure out some ways of creating "cool" web effects by using something other than flash. As some of you may already know these can be done with some css/html, and javascript. Trying to learn some of the basics on my own was a little frustrating, but after burning a few brain cells in the process, I think I found a solution for what I was trying to do. During my research online I came across jQuery, a javascript library that focuses on doing more with less lines of code. I also found a crazy, yet very inspiring 12 year old kid who demonstrates jQuery during a school presentation. This kid codes better than anyone I know and all I can say is "wow"...check him out.

Check out the Modbook

This brand new Apple toy retains MacBook functionality in a unique tablet computer. Very appealing if you ask me. Check it out at Oxiotron's site.
Portfolio Coming Soon...
Yes, I know...I said that last year when I launched my coming soon arias.ca site and nothing has happened since. Well this time is real. I'm working on it but it's taking me a little longer than I thought, so bare with me because I know you all are dying to see it..."Sure there David!". OK, but for those of you who are interested, the site is coming soon enough. I will be posting some of my work on this blog too as soon as I get a chance. Enjoy the sun!
